3 Smoothies to Help Control Chocolate Cravings

Posted by Lisa Consiglio Ryan on

Physically, humans strive to find balance in all aspects of life. With nature, among others, and physically.

In order to live an optimal healthy life, our blood cells need to maintain a 7.365 pH balance as much as possible.

Eating acidic foods (soda, coffee, dairy, sugar, gluten, alcohol, processed and fast foods) over time can tip us to the acidic side and not only lead to inflammation (which ultimately leads to chronic illness) but causes cravings.

Sugar Cravings

Cravings are good! Cravings are a way your body is warning you something is out of balance. You can nip it in the bud with managing your stress, getting more sleep, and connecting with your loved ones.

BUT if all the above don’t seem to be the issue, you might want to consider something going on nutritionally.

If you rule out stress, exhaustion, lack of connection to others, sometimes what you are dealing with is a nutritional deficiency.

Chocolate Cravings

For example, if you crave chocolate, this might be a magnesium deficiency so you can start adding in dark leafy greens, nuts, and fruit or take a magnesium supplement before bed (it’s a muscle relaxer and can help with sleep, too). OR if you crave soda, this could mean you have a calcium deficiency so adding in more sesame seeds, broccoli or kale can help.

Sometimes the crowding out the cravings does wonders to really changing the game for you when it comes to living the clean life.

Why We Love Chocolate

Chocolate is soothing, comforting and very needed for a good life! BUT it can cause acne, weight gain, and blood sugar issues.  AND a lot of the times we crave chocolate is when we are stressed.

The easiest way to cut the cravings is to make a green smoothie.

Green smoothies are not only nutritious and high in magnesium, but they also incorporate those ingredients that help with easing the chocolate cravings. Instead of Hershey’s chocolate, you can use cinnamon, cacao, and dark leafy greens!

Here are 3 smoothie recipes that can help curb your cravings:

Chocolate Banana Milkshake

Ingredients:

1 cup kale
2 cups almond milk
1 frozen banana, peeled
2 Tbsp. organic cocao powder
Pinch of sea salt

Makes 2 servings so share with your +1!

Makes appr. 24 oz.

Fresh + Light Green Smoothie

Ingredients:

1 cup kale
2 cups almond milk
1 banana (frozen preferred)
1 peach, pitted (or 1/4 cup frozen)
1 Tbsp. almond butter

1 tsp. cinnamon

Extra somethin’ somethin’:  1 Tbsp. flaxseeds

Blend ingredients and share with a +1.
Makes appr. 24 oz.

Green Up Smoothie

1 cup spinach

2 cups coconut milk

1 avocado, peeled and pitted

1 pear, remove stem

2 Tbsp. lemon juice (or juice ½ lemon)

1 tsp. cayenne pepper

Makes 2 servings so share with your +1!

Makes appr. 24 oz.

Keep in mind, it’s not one or the other. Such as if you have a choice after dinner and want something sweet, reaching for kale won’t happen. You will grab the chocolate! (I would!). So it’s adding in more nutritional foods each day to crowd out the craving.
